Green Eyes

?

A true story
I have green eyes, she said
When I looked at her
They’re my daddy’s eyes
My grandma is tiny
I can carry her all by myself
She doesn’t look like she can, but I say
Nothing
She’s just a kid
She stands out
In the crowd of dark eyes
Brown and full of things untold
Her sister looks like them
But
Hers are green and look at me
The way every kid should
Bright
Buttery
Innocent
She is a butterfly
My eyes are green like my daddy’s
But
We live with my grandma
Why
Not thinking
Without bad intention
Her face falls
To the ground
Like a raindrop
Only a little
To this
Day
I still remember what she said
This is what she said:
My daddy’s in
J
A
I
L
For shooting two girls
Calmly
I stare
But he didn’t, she says
Looking at me
Earnest
He really didn’t
What do you say
When you don’t know
What to say?
He really didn’t
She said
Looking at me with
Her daddy’s green eyes
It was then that I realized
Two things:
One
She has a sister
A grandma
And a daddy
But there’s a missing
Piece
Two
Her daddy really did
Hey
I know you’ll
Probably never see this
But
I want to say sorry
For forgetting your name
And not giving you
Those socks in person
But
I will
Always
Remember you
And your story
Those eyes are yours too
