We roll the car into the Kwik Trip in northern Wisconsin. My dad fills the 2011 Honda Pilot with gas while I go to purchase my favorite beef jerky. I pull the door open and walk inside to find the restrooms. It would be 3 more hours before we stopped again.
Our destination was my Uncle Joe’s Cabin, located in the upper peninsula. I couldn’t wait to return to the marshy woodland for a third time. I actually quite enjoy fighting off the horseflies, picking leeches off of my skin in the orange iron-filled swamp water, and being afraid of the moose I have yet to encounter. I don’t mind plugging my nose while filling the John Deere gator with fuel to avoid the gasoline smell. I don’t care if I have to spend an hour looking for raspberries to put in pancakes that I won’t eat.
Orange swamp water,
The jetskis propeller
catches the weeds
Beef jerky
We pass by
Cows in a field
I bite into venison
Leeches and mosquitoes
Bite me
