Crunching wood chips under my feet was my favorite soundtrack as a child. On the playground, we dodged capture, diving behind slides, crouching under jungle gyms, vanishing into the camouflage of the bark and shadows. The goal wasn’t to win, it was to survive unseen. I mastered hiding, convincing myself invisibility was safety. Years later I realized I play the same game in life running from conflict, burying fears, hiding from challenges I was too afraid to face. The playground’s game might have stayed behind but the instinct to dodge and disappear stayed with me, until I decided it was time to stop hiding.
