Every morning we wake. We shower, we dress, we eat, and we attend school.
The bell rings and we sit. It rings and we rise, it rings and we sit. We rise, we sit, we rise, we sit. Hour after hour, week after week, year after year. Again and again and again we do this.
We get to class and The Teacher says sit down. And we obey. We groan, but we obey. The Teacher says be quiet. And we obey. We huff, but we obey. The Teacher says listen, focus, sit, stand, move, speak, learn. And we obey.
We smell smoke and worry. We worry and turn to The Teacher. The Teacher says it’s nothing, settle down. And we obey. We gossip, then we obey. The fire alarm goes off and we are scared. We are scared and turn to The Teacher. The Teacher makes a call then tells us; all is well, sit down. And we obey. We question, then we obey.
We see the fire now, we open the door ready to run. We hear The Teacher’s voice; don’t go, you will never make it. And we obey. We close the door and we obey. We open the window ready to jump. We hear The Teacher’s voice; don’t jump, you will only die. And we obey. We lock the windows and we obey.
The fire is in the room, we try to run, to jump, to do anything, but it is too late.
The Teacher said die… and we obeyed.
